#15 Behold My Servant

Isaiah 42 begins a sequence of Servant Songs--the Identity of the Servant is essential. Ch. 41 clearly identifies the Servant as Israel and so does the Septuagint.

But as Jewish thought developed into the Aramaic Targums, the identity of the Servant began to shift from unfaithful Israel to the faithful Servant--the Messiah.

He has the same mission and goal as Israel--but He will accomplish it and be faithful to the Covenant. The First & Second Coming of Messiah are revealed in this chapter.
