Torah #2 - Floods & Election of Nimrods
Based on the argument made in Hebrews, we can say that we were present on the ark and saved with Noah and his family. But a fallen, sin nature also survived the flood and was quickly manifest in the person of Nimrod--a dangerous tyrant and hunter not only of animals but of great people. Quite the different understanding of the name from when I grew up.
He did not value life or respect the image of God in humanity. Definitely not Pro-Life. He founded several cities and led people in rebellion against God--seducing them to invade the heavens (or avoid global climate change fearmongering) by building a tall tower that brought down the punishment of God.
A people or nation led by a person like Nimrod is in a lot of trouble. That's where we're in danger today. In a few days, we have the opportunity to indicate the direction of our country. Both candidates have the potential to be a Nimrod for us--one more than the other. Particularly because of how they value Life. In this election, one candidate touts the ending of life and the most important reason to vote for her.
But a willingness to end life as a matter of policy spills over into other policies. A pro-abortion position won't promote families with children, is more willing to sterilize women, promote farming policies that lessen the food supply, energy policies that will end life in times of extreme heat or cold.
And if you're thinking of staying out of this election and not participating because you don't like either candidate, well... to paraphrase a famous quote from Vodie Baucham about education and Ceasar...
We cannot, as the people of God, refuse to participate in choosing our leaders and then be surprised or complain that we are governed by Nimrods.
