Jacob: Did He Really Wrestle With God?

Common Understanding has Jacob wrestling with God, as if in a WWE match. God, wrestling in the form of a man, cannot overcome Jacob (how's that possible) without resorting to injuring his hip.

But is that really what's going on? Is there another possibility for what is happening in this strange encounter?
