Torah #4 - And He Appeared - Genesis 18-22

A common Jewish interpretation is that the life events of the Patriarchs foreshadows or is repeated in the lives of their descendants.

Rabbeinu Bahya - "Our sages (Tanchuma Lech Lecha 9) told us that what happened to the patriarchs and is reported in the Torah serves as a preview of what would happen to their descendants in the future."

I would add, not just to their descendants, their seeds, but these events also parallel what happens to their Seed, as in Messiah. Paul through the Holy Spirit confirms this idea.

Galatians 3:15-16--"Brothers and sisters, I speak in human terms: even with a man’s covenant, once it has been confirmed, no one cancels it or adds to it. 16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It doesn’t say, “and to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “and to your seed,” who is the Messiah."

This Torah portion reveals the heart of God on many levels, intercession and pleas for mercy to a sinful people, the reality of God's righteous judgement, and the mechanism of our Redemption in the Ram provided by God before the foundation of the world.
